Judge reinstates third-degree murder charge against Derek Chauvin in George Floyd's death

...
The added charge provides prosecutors a third potential pathway to conviction in the closely watched case, which began Tuesday with jury selection at the heavily fortified Hennepin County Government Center.

"The charge of 3rd-degree murder, in addition to manslaughter and felony murder, reflects the gravity of the allegations against Mr. Chauvin," Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said in a statement. "We look forward to presenting all three charges to the jury."

A lawyer expressed concern about the number of white women on the jury due to having observed a 'coddling of systemic racism' among that group. 7 of the jurors are under the age of 40. Almost every juror who was polled had seen the video. Even though they commit to being open-minded, it's a difficult challenge to get a fair trial in this situation. Still, this seems a fairly diverse make-up of the jury.

Moments before opening arguments in the murder trial of the former Minneapolis police officer who kneeled on George Floyd’s neck, the 46-year-old’s family issued a message to prosecutors: “America is watching.”

Just watched that vid with that officer on George’s neck, in its entirety. The cop had enough time to take his knee off his neck. Many bystanders were so upset because they were practically begging the officer to get off the victim, but he refused. The Asian officer the crowd was asking why couldn’t he get his fellow officer to comply, also ignored many witnesses plea.

it’s interesting how the Defense for the cop is trying to blame witnesses by accusing them of diverting attention from the officers, just because the crowd witnessed and begged Chauvin to release his knee from Mr. Floyd, and how Chauvin refused to take his knee off of George’s neck. That incident was a public lynching, because the cop had enough time to release his knee off of Mr. Floyd. Me. Floyd lost consciousness before the ambulance came. Sad how the defense is trying to blame George for his own death. Ridiculous. Shame, shame. If this cop doesn’t get convicted, it will be travesty. At the same time, I hope for peace in that city, if the case dies the turn out with a conviction.

The first witness, the 911 dispatcher, called a supervisor sergeant because she said what she was seeing on the monitors "looked a little different". She told him "you can call me a snitch" as she wasn't supposed to be calling up the chain that way. Good for her! But he didn't do anything about it. Mr. Floyd had no pulse even half way through when they were all sitting on him.

Yes, good for her. This is the first time I got a clear view of the whole incident. Also with the witness from the Safeway store, who recorded it from the other side, where you could see 2 police officers holding Mr. Floyd’s body. Was tough to watch. I have to say the witnesses from various backgrounds, watching it happen from the sidewalk, and pleading with the other cop , to get the kneeling cop off of Mr. Floyd, were heroes for doing the ‘human’ thing, showing concern and trying to help save Mr. Floyd’s life, but the cop just ignored their pleas, and he did nothing to intervene, so he’s just as guilty as Chauvin.
I mean watching how long he kneeled on his neck, he had plenty of time to get off Mr. Floyd, but it truly appears he just didn’t want to. Such a shame. No human should ever experience that kind of abuse. Where was any of those cops’ ‘humanity?’ Smh.

The judge also said you couldn't hold the trial anywhere in the world w/o a juror knowing things when he decided not to move the trial out of Minnie.

Exactly, Chauvin was the most senior cop there - showing the others how to be dirty. Systemic passing on of practices.

I don't see how they couldn't find him not guilty. Video is the proof.
I also hope it doesn't result in a hung jury.
The Floyd family is correct, America is watching.

Especially how the video evidence shows how he kneeled on Mr.Floyd’s neck until he became unconscious, and while he was unconscious, and the cop still refused to get up, no matter how much the witnesses on the sidewalk was begging him to get off Mr. Floyd. That was just pure evil the way the cop forced the life out of him.

Honestly, I started to watch and I couldn't. It's straight up murder.

Defense is using witness Mr. Williams, the MMA guy, as the reason why the cops were distracted and killed George Floyd. Along with a gotcha on the chokehold as a twofer by way of his scholastic wrestling. The defense attorney is very condescending to him like he's 5 years old. This is all they got at the beginning of day 2.

Honestly I don’t know how the Defense attorney could live with himself, especially after watching the full vid, where Mr. . Floyd posed no threat, while laying on the ground. To even assume the witnesses on the sidewalk begging the cop to take his knee off the victim, were a threat, is nonsense. Since when were the concerned witnesses a threat, when they stood at a good distance, just begging the officers to let go of Mr. Floyd because they saw him gasping for air. They basically witnessed a murder.
Just don’t see how the cops involved, especially Chauvin, the cop standing in front of Chauvin, and the 2nd cop also holding Mr. Floyd’s body down. Smh. I just hope the jury does the right thing, I mean many in America and around the world, witnessed that killing on tv, right in front of their eyes.

The 9 year old witness broke my heart today. Darnella Frazier is a hero at 17 years old. She started filming before anyone else and caught the whole thing. The EMT's testimony was so disturbing.
