Videogame music

These days, the music in a videogame is given pretty much the same attention as the soundtrack for a motion picture.

Sometimes all it takes is the first few notes and you're transported there, saving the world from evil...

Even some arcade games back in the day had catchy songs...

Anyone else have any favorites?

actually, roughly 100 year ago I even bought and still have the 7-inch single of this beautiful gem after hearing it first time on Casey Kasems AT40 LOL

I'm not at all into gaming, so it's not really an answer, but a relative of mine has been employed on a huge salary to create storylines for videogames. The money they invest in them nowadays is incredible.

Funny, fun game

Gosh... Listening to this brings back memories. First, it's just a good listen. I'm recollecting the young boy I played this with. It was a good time, filled with hilarity. There were parts I struggled with and this little whippersnapper would pick up the controller and take it to the end of the segment in record time. I'd go back to get all the points along the way. He'd just tear along. Now, he's 17! Tall and handsome and a good person. I continue to hope the best for him and watch with interest as he navigates life.

I don't remember exactly, but either that album (yes, they did a whole album, not just the one song lol) or the "Here Comes Garfield" soundtrack was the first record I ever bought...

WTF a whole album? I'm not sure I'm brave enuff to search for it on spotify or youtube LOL

I love the music in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time. Also, the radio stations in GTA San Andreas were the best in the whole series. The Last of Part 2's soundtrack is awesome as well. (the game is game of the year for me anyway)

Bit of a gaming music fan here myself ...

A sucker for the old classic stuff ... Castlevania III on the NES is an all time fave. Donkey Kong County on the SNES had some great music to, and of course the aforementioned Street Fighter II has loads of classics (love the Ken stage music which apparently ripped off Cheap Trick - Mighty Wings).

I listen to a lot of gaming music when I'm writing, as the instrumental pieces can be much more atmospheric, longer, and more consistent for when you're sitting writing for a few hours at a time. The Resident Evil series is particularly good for this, and Skyrim which has amazing music. I've also taken the Skyrim suite with me on holiday with me when I've being walking in the Lake District and similar places, its the perfect accompaniment!

One of my all-time favorite soundtracks is for the old-schoolish game Arcanum, it was unique for it's time in that the entire soundtrack is performed by an actual string quartet...
Even if you're not a gamer, the music is gorgeous...
