I have yet to hear a convincing arguement as to WHY sensible gun laws are not in place on a Federal level from the so-called conservatives.

Herein lies part of the problem:

Georgia lawmakers have steadily loosened gun laws in recent years, including with a 2022 measure that allows most residents to carry a firearm without a permit.
The state is not among those, for example, that penalizes failing to safely store a firearm.

SCHOOL SHOOTINGS HAVE ZERO TO DO WITH THE SECOND AMENDMENT!!!! 🤬

Mostly, those of a right wing persuasion twist themselves in contortions to convince the rest of us that it isn't guns that kill. Never mind that we have actual evidence that restrictions on assault weapons result in reduced fatalities and school shootings: the Assault Weapons Ban reduced mass shootings until it was allowed to lapse in 2004, 20 years after Columbine.

Oh. I didn't know that about Georgia. Awful, but not surprising, I guess.

Beyond the state level, we have SCOTUS intervening at the federal level to loosen gun laws in states that have them, e.g.New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen.

the landmark ruling shifted the Second Amendment landscape. Going forward, the justices ruled, restrictions on guns can only stand if there is evidence of similar regulations in our nation’s history and tradition.

NY fought back. The matter continues to be litigated. Here's a little blurb on that case:
