Listened to live discs yesterday as I had a long drive - not bad, a bit too much Tony M and Gett Off refrain used far too much. Overall it was not bad and its growing on me - even singing along to live "Jughead". I get the feeling he was trying too hard to be "Trendy".

And now I am already over it. I am truly sick of late 80s bombastic try hard rap music!

Easily the worst of all the Super Deluxes, high marks for presentation, but low marks for music. It was one of his least interesting and musically most bland eras. I sincerely hope the next SD is an 80s album and anything but Batman.

I will be ordering The "Diamond's And Pearls" -Super-Deluxe-edition/ CDS Set this
summer. "Diamond's And Pearls" is one of my favorite albums! I have the
cassette, music videos collection.

I am genuinely so excited for you @Dalia I think you will be really happy with it. I look forward/ can't wait to discuss it with you 🤭

An early Xmas present but I've finally got to this. Yes, the book is amazing, just like the SOTT SDE book. I found the Glam Slam live video some place else - it's amazing too. I've only started on the Vault 1 cd and I can see that this really was a transitional period for Prince. It feels like he really was chasing a hit album. Some of my favourite parts of these SDEs are the tracks where Prince is giving the band instructions like on Darkside and Cream (take 2). Trouble is incredibly funky and The Voice is still a great track.

Out of curiosity, of the Vault tracks on this SDE, are there any that you would swap in instead of others or include in the official album release back in 1991?

Must go have another listen.

yes. Enjoying Darkside. I am so distracted, I'm doing other things while listening. But. . . I had to get up to see what I was listening to when Darkside came on. It's interesting to hear Prince directing the band and providing additional parts he's imagining by pronouncing syllables or humming. Great guitar throughout. I like not having vocals, just hearing the instruments.

The Live At Glam Slam set is really a revelation. I saw the video a few weeks back and loved it and even without the visual of Prince and the NPG, it still sounds amazing. This sounds like a different mix from the video though. This is far superior than the ONA live set and the Indigo Nights set in whatever you want to call it - vibe, energy.

I read somewhere this SD sold just 2,000 copies. What is the point of even releasing it. Shows how badly the music has dated. The original album sold at least 3 million copies and as much as 6 million, with 5 singles and 2 were huge hits, 2 moderate hits and one was an Urban Hit, this album had nothing to promote it - no remix or new single (Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars - where are you?)

And the estate releases the 1992 Glam Slam concert as a one off movie viewing - yaawnnn!!

Its the death of the estate.

I don't think it's the death of the Estate. Unfortunately, everything is tied up with the stalled documentary and from where I sit, that was a bad deal. They could have set aside material (maybe unreleased music and film) that didn't have to go into the documentary and release it to the public. Why Netflix has the rights to all of that released and unreleased material until the doc comes out is another bad deal. It's not even a thing that he would have allowed if he was alive anyway. I mean, not every single piece of Prince music and film is in that documentary. I'm certain of that. But I still blame Prince for not having his affairs in order in case something happened to him. He wasn't as shrewd a businessman as we all thought he was.

Omni corping (Where companies are bought out by larger companies/coglomerations and or mergers) is also to blame. They buy a smaller company and then divvy out various assets and aspects and are like, "oh Prince estate, whats that - or some drugged out sex singer who died 10 years ago etc, you know that gay looking guy who sung about oral sex and cream and then Purple Rain - some old die hard fans mostly desparate middle aged women, aging hipsters and gay men like him" - that kind of contempt from groups run by lawyers, accountants and non fans. "But we have to look after them, as those fans mostly in their 50s and 60s are brimming over with disposable cash - so lets milk em".

The way Londell treats us is shocking, the family gets little respect and as years pass from Prince's death, the offerings lessen out and what is issued is over priced, inaproppriate or just bizarre. Clueless crap really.

As for the documentary - fuck it, I see the names and know this will be a gossip filled ratchet job based on the worst gossip and lies along with half ass acting and bad production values. It will play up his love of barely teenage girls, his hatred of gays and the record business community and the way he treated bandmates etc. Who cares, most of us serious fans know enough about Prince anyway.

Lol I'm pretty cynical but not that cynical. I still think Prince is to blame for his legacy being in a mess. As for Londell, I really doubt Prince confided in his family and so it makes sense that since Prince had such an axe to grind with the music industry, Londell might be someone who was left/chosen/annointed/knew what Prince wanted/whatever to run the Estate's affairs.

I also doubt the documentary will have half ass actors - meaning, it won't have any actors. It's a documentary and so it'll most likely have first person interviews and maybe a narrator.

Regarding the documentary, I really hope it won't have any actors ... There is that Ken Russell very informative & full 1989 Prince documentary that you all know, with commentary from George Clinton, Terence Trent D'Arby, Quincy Jones, Little Richard, Miles Davis & others. and that The ladder soundcheck, way it was filmed & created, I thought is a simply emotive & heart rendering introduction to his art. I think Mr Russell did a very good job , so I hope we get something along the lines of Russell's work & line of thought.

I'll be interested to hear your opinion on the remaster compared to the original.

Hello! What is the ATMOS audiophile disc? What is ATMOS?
ATMOS is a surround sound format that spreads the music from 2 channels stereo into 7 channels- some usually positioned overhead in your listening space. I personally only have a 5.1 channel system- which is just as good for ATMOS Blu-ray Discs.

I have the “D&P” set on this format- it was one average from a company in England called SDE, but they were shipping to America. It wasn’t cheap- I think I paid around $35 , and it’s just the original album In Surround Sound, none of the extra tracks. I’m a lover of music in Surround- it spreads the vocals and instruments around your listening area, and you can hear the individual parts better and clearer

That sounds really fun and dreamy worthwhile. I’d like to check it out!

Here, there are 2 huge Technics speakers (not sure what vintage - they’re about 3 and a half feet tall!) In the very next space (it’s kind of a shotgun-style arrangement) there are 2 small JBL speakers hung up near the ceiling. They’re both just stereo sound. It works pretty nicely, although a techie-type might have something else to say.

Anyway, ATMOS sounds great, I’m sure.
