Faux News Pays up...

There should always be a price to pay for lying and deliberately misleading
I agree about faux news. They verge on evil. I hate Rupert Murdoch. I want his networks and all Murdoch enterprises to pay a price for evildoing. But, how? What price?

Update: The only thing that can bring Faux down is already in progress... T---- tweeting against it. See: Fox's desperate push to preserve viewers exposes the hollowness of its "news" side

jj, you probably didn't intend for your comment to be taken to the extreme of the legal definition of freedom of speech. I am going there just because the legal system, the Courts and Judges and the Constitution, while fragile, are the things that have protected us, however inadequately, in the crazy times we're living in (obviously, its destruction is one of the motivations for McConnell to work so diligently on filling every empty judicial position he can find, no matter how unqualified the individual). Often, I wish I was more knowledgable about our Constitution. Freedom of speech. What does it include and exclude? IANAL, so, as I usually do, I went off looking online for reporting about it. Yeah, kind of superficial, but the best I can do. A 2012 SCOTUS discussion came up about a fellow who claimed he'd won the Congressional Medal of Honor. I'll post the article, because it has some good points.

Is a Lie Just Free Speech, Or Is It a Crime?

Finally, I read the article dimi posted. It's kind of a mixed bag result, don't you think? The family brought a suit 'for intentional infliction of emotional distress'. From the article Dimi posted:
In the course of the lawsuit brought by Seth Rich’s parents, Fox News was forced to turn over hundreds of internal emails and documents relating to its story. The documents were sealed but could have become public if the lawsuit proceeded. At least some of that material related to communications Butowsky had claimed at times to have had with White House figures, including then White House press secretary Sean Spicer and President Trump himself (although Butowsky later insisted neither had any advance knowledge of the story he was helping Zimmerman develop.)...
And,
The immediate trigger for the settlement talks, however, appears to have been a stepped-up deposition schedule that was filed with the court last September. It called for depositions of Zimmerman on Oct. 26, Butowsky on Oct. 27, Hannity on Oct. 30, Fox News president Wallace on Nov. 10 and Fox News executive vice president for corporate communications Irena Briganti. At that point, sources familiar with the matter say, Fox News lawyers began negotiations to settle the lawsuit and offered a hefty settlement figure, thereby sparing its star anchors and executives from having to answer questions about what they knew about the bogus story. Although the settlement terms were soon agreed to, the sources say, Fox News arranged to delay any announcement until this week — three weeks after the presidential election.
I added the color to the type above. Seth Rich's parents agreed to the settlement terms. I kind of wonder what the terms were (aside from the cash) without having enough gumption to try and figure that out. Also, because of the settlement, we'll never know the depths of Faux's despicable behaviour because they are sealed and the depositions were averted. What kind of pain does a seven figure settlement bring to Faux? The price of a band-aid for the average person?

The Sinclair group is funding Parler, which has absorbed all the nutjobs. Now the FBI can watch them in just one place.:pimp::roll::roll::roll::roll::boxed::boxed::boxed:

Maria Bartiromo is a fucking she-devil. She eggs Trump on purposely like a kindergarten teacher trynna find out if he needs to go to the bathroom, only it's about destroying the country. Learned a lot when I had to watch Fox News or no news during the election, yech.

thedailybeast -
The View’s Joy Behar on Monday took aim at Fox News host Maria Bartiromo for her transition from respected financial journalist to conspiracy-peddling Trump sycophant, declaring that the “body snatchers” have gotten to the TV star while wondering “what the hell happened to her?”

This is worth a listen:
Flashback: When D.C. media attacked Obama for calling out Fox News [Eric Boehlert; 10.8.21]
A few excerpts:
As Fox News celebrates its 25th anniversary this week as the unapologetic arm of the Republican Party, it’s worth recalling the time that Democrats organized a revolt against the network, called it out as not being a “legitimate news organization,” and the Beltway press sprinted to defend Rupert Murdoch’s misinformation machine.

Today, Fox News has killed untold thousands during the pandemic. It spent 2020 telling viewers the Covid-19 virus was a “hoax,” and then this year urged them not to give into government “tyranny” by getting a free, safe, and life-saving vaccine. Think about all the damage and death that could have been avoided over the years if the mainstream media had moved swiftly to marginalize Fox News. Instead, anxious to beat down cries of “liberal media bias,” the Beltway press played nice with Murdoch’s network, pretended it was staffed with hard working, serious journalists, and refused to condemn Fox News for what it is — a cancer on this country.
...
Keep in mind that by 2009, the cable channel had clearly morphed into the Opposition Party in America, having long ago left the realm of journalism. But the Beltway press looked away.
...
At the time, Tapper had no idea how Fox News was different than ABC News, and he worked there. Keep in mind that in 2009, Fox News was sponsoring Tea Party rallies all across the country — the network was literally marketing, staging, and airing anti-Obama rallies coast-to-coast, but Tapper was stumped as to what made Fox News different from ABC.

Absolutely deplorable - to knowingly use a fake photo in news and potentially even having had it faked or know who did fake this and seek to present yourself as a journalist is why fox's propaganda is so dangerous.
Yup. On a par with t—- releasing to Breitbart (or some similar) info (the search warrant or some portion thereof) that revealed the identities of 2 FBI agents, who were at maralago. Their safety is now in question.
Meanwhile,

Have you heard about the lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox ‘News’? About the 192-page filing listing damning evidence that prominent broadcasters knew they were lying to their tv audience about election fraud? Finally, it seems maybe deep-enough-pockets is taking on Faux.

Here’s Glenn Kuschner, former federal prosecutor and host of Justice Matters, with his commentary.

A lot of commentators are talking about the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit against Fox. I've been enjoying listening to Keith Olbermann's 'Countdown with Keith Olbermann' podcast lately. He's got a sharp tongue and humorous style and he's informative at the same time. So, here's what he said on the topic, from his Episode #136, 2.17.23:
When Jackie Heinrich of Fox News tweeted on November 12, 2020 that, “There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes or was in any way compromised”, Fox’s Tucker Carlson texted his pal Sean Hannity, “Please, get her fired. Seriously, what the blank. I’m actually shocked. It needs to stop immediately. It’s measurably hurting the company. The stock price is down.” The message got to Fox’s PR person, the eternally loathsome Irina Briganti, and Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott, nominally in charge of news at Fox News. Scott sent Briganti a text about the reporter, who had actually reported the truth, “She has serious nerve doing this and if this gets picked up, viewers are going to be further disgusted.” This is the head of news at Fox News, deliberately undermining the news! All this, part of a 192-page document filed a month ago by Dominion Voting Systems in its suit against Fox News, revealed yesterday. It is full of internal Fox texts and memos. The story gets as far as Rupert Murdoch, who got up out of his crypt and emailed Suzanne Scott about the real issue here, that NewsMax was taking away Fox News’ audience. They quote, “Should be watched, if skeptically. Trump will concede eventually. And, we should concentrate on Georgia, helping any way we can.” Rupert meant, of course, the Georgia Senate run-off which they lost. “We don’t want to antagonize Trump further but Giuliani, taken with a large grain of salt, everything at stake here.” Should he ever use the word stake???? You know Dracula. The real problem for Fox may be Carlson’s texts to somebody named Pfeiffer, on January 6, 2021, that Trump is “...a demonic force, a destroyer. Twenty days later, Carlson added, “What Trump’s good at is destroying things. He’s the world champion of that. He could easily destroy us, if we play it wrong.” There is so much in the 192-page document, about the canceling of an entire Jeanine Pirro show, after it was recorded; texts in which Sean Hannity says, “Rudy Giuliani is acting like an insane person.” And Laura Ingraham calls him “such an idiot.” And 2 Lou Dobbs’ producers refer to “Giuliani’s insanity lately” and how he is “so full of blank.” There’s so much in here, they should make it into a Netflix series and the title of the Netflix series should be ‘Morons! Never Write Anything Down.’

Excellent opinion piece from the Washington Post, on the topic of faux news and GOP elites doing back flips to appease the base. Reading it, I had an idea for a cartoon: House majority leader Kevin McCarthy sitting terrified in a gold cage, with marjorie taylor greene, lauren boebert, paul gosar, and the rest poking sticks through the bars.

Republican elites fear the monster they created [WaPo;2.24.23]

They could all try to tame the monster with honest reporting, for a change.
