I’ve not posted here in so long. I’ve been too busy with other things.

The kerfuffle about President Joe Biden’s performance in the late June presidential debate drifted along without a mention here.

Now, yesterday’s assassination attempt at a t—— rally. I decided to post this essay.

Hubbell focuses on the question of gun violence and that made me think of @mdiver and his efforts to bring about change.

I agree with Davis, and, happily for me, so do a bunch of the other talking heads I listen to / read, that it’s a fool’s errand to drop Biden from the Democratic ticket.

Davis also speaks about musk melon’s twitter purchase (however long ago now). I always thought that was a tactical move, not a business investment. Did anyone think otherwise?

I like Davis’ style and he’s a British expat!

It”s the power brokers and donors in the Democratic Party going for broke to get rid of Biden. She asks them to play out the scenario. They won’t. They can’t.

It’s not like they can wave a magic wand and get what they want.

For those with bottomless pockets the height of irresponsibility knows no bounds. Democracy / plutocracy? It’s all good.

Today, by posting a letter to Twitter, President Biden withdrew his campaign for the upcoming presidential election and endorsed Kamala Harris to be the nominee.

As well secured the delegates preventing an open convention. Her poll numbers are shooting up across the board. Money is pouring in and the excitement is Obama level. I didn't like how the media and then elected officials treated Biden, but him stepping aside seems to have been the right move.

I agree, I think he did this for the good of the nation
 
Joe is the real thing. And while it was certainly a difficult decision, I have to say that the burden of that POTUS gig is a lot for an older person and at times I can see it take its toll on him physically. He is a consequential president and that will go down in the history books. I applaud this act of absolute selflessness.


However, it is quite exciting to see how energized the Harris-Walz campaign is. She is doing exactly what I'd hoped - paving more than one way to the majority of the electorate. If they can flip a couple states then they will not need ALL of the "battleground" states where Trump sycophants have already manipulated the election process and are preparing to not certify the votes if Trump loses. It's unconstitutional at the very least and hopefully it will not matter if she has several paths to the magic number.

The latest in a series of debacles by the Trump campaign is referring to Harris as a communist - they are playing the communist card! 😆 I guess when all else fails, right?

So where does this Kamala-the-communist stuff come from? It could be that Republicans believe they can convince voters that a moderately center-left Democrat who is a former prosecutor is a communist because she’s a Black woman — a twist, perhaps, on the “welfare queen” trope of another era.

But it may be less calculating than that. To all appearances, the Trump campaign has been caught flat-footed, first by President Biden’s withdrawal from the race, then by the surge of Democratic enthusiasm and Harris’s unexpected effectiveness as a campaigner.

Even negative public perceptions of the economy, which have been Trump’s ace in the hole, seem to be evaporating as a political force. A New York Times/Siena College battlegrounds poll released in May gave Trump a 20-point advantage over Biden on the economy; that advantage was down to six points over Harris in the latest Times/Siena poll of three battleground states. A new poll by The Financial Times shows Harris slightly ahead on the issue nationally.

Trump and MAGA seem to be responding by throwing lots of stuff at the wall and hoping some of it sticks.

However, the kind of character attacks that worked against Hillary Clinton and, in a different way, against Biden don’t seem to be gaining traction. I almost felt sorry for the Fox News host Jesse Watters, who tried to attack Harris by saying: “She likes wine. She likes food. She likes to dance.” This is supposed to make voters dislike her?

So since nothing else seems to be working, hey, why not call her a communist?
 
Tim Walz, Democratic VP candidate, and jd vance, t----'s pick for vp, meet tonight to debate.

On Rachel Maddow's show, yesterday, she uncovered a conversation between vance and a far-right commentator in which they advocate tearing down our democracy in favor of a dictator, getting rid of higher education institutions, etc.

Also, check out the article in the previous post: vance and t----'s promulgating the lie that Haitian immigrants (legal asylum seekers, btw) were eating Springfield, Ohio's pets, led to death threats and doxxing of a businessman who had the guts to stand up for the Haitian workers in his employ. The FBI has warned him about potential violence against his entire family. Do you think vance or t---- should disavow the violence, which has also affected institutions in Springfield, which has necessitated school closures and other extreme protective steps? They never will, as we know.

I'm unsure but I think CBS, which is hosting tonight's debate, will not be fact-checking during the debate.
